Luke Bongiorno, P.T., M.C.M.T - Physical Therapist Director
Luke Bongiorno is managing director of Physical Therapy at NY Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. He graduated with honors from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and has since received the Mastery Certification in Manual Therapy. Luke practices a “hands-on” approach to therapy, and ensures that his patients receive the highest level of care and are educated, so they can return to optimal function and prevent recurrent injury.
Among the most highly regarded in his field, Luke is in demand internationally as an educator, certifying other therapists at a mastery level in advanced manual skills. This year, he will be teaching advanced courses in manual therapy in Brazil, South Africa, Portugal, Japan, Australia, Norway, and the U.K. He is also a clinical educator for the Columbia University Physical Therapy program. Luke has extensive experience in advanced manual skills, trigger point therapy, myofascial therapy, spinal stabilization, neurofascial mobilization, and proprioceptive training. Luke also has training in McKenzie Method mechanical diagnosis and therapy, McConnell patellofemoral and shoulder treatment, and advanced taping techniques. He is currently involved in clinical research focused on improving postural awareness and is developing guidelines for injury prevention in sports medicine and in the workplace. Luke is a part of the medical team for the New York Road Runner's Club, including the New York City Marathon, and treats professional athletes and touring performing arts/dance company members. He will also be working with the Olympic athletes this summer at the Beijing Games and is certified as a personal trainer by the International Sports and Fitness Training Association (ISFTA). « back |
