Petros Anagnostakis has an immense interest in human physiology and has always been drawn to physical challenges. These combined traits ultimately led Petros to pursue a career in the field of physical therapy. They also led him to study Chinese martial arts, as well as ballroom and Latin dancing.
Originally from Greece, Petros traveled the world before finishing high school and then completed two years of compulsory service in the Greek Air Force. He then continued his training and studies in the two areas he was passionate about – dancing and martial arts – and received degrees in both. Armed with the desire to expand his knowledge in these disciplines further, he arrived in the U.S. in 1997 and subsequently completed professional exams in ballroom and Latin dancing, receiving the Member Degree by the National Dance Council of America. Petros then taught dance professionally through the Fred Astaire franchise of dance studios.
After witnessing his father’s struggle with the after-effects of a stroke, Petros was determined to pursue the study of physical therapy and graduated from Bergen Community College with a degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Throughout his career, Petros has also attended numerous continuing education seminars with an emphasis on manual therapy techniques.
Petros has continually had the desire to be part of a great team of physical therapy professionals, knowing that collaboration among his peers could help patients better achieve their goals. His education, professional experience and background in dancing and martial arts have provided him with an effective mix of skills that allows him to pursue the best possible outcomes for his patients.
"My orthopedic surgeon at NYU was thrilled by Petros’ work, and so am I. Petros showed me exercises to strengthen my adductors and improve my proprioception. I am a professional dancer, and after working with Petros, I was able to return to dancing at Ailey."- Pam
