Dr. Michael Neely, the Medical Director at NY Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, is recognized by many as the “athlete’s doctor”. He has dedicated his practice to the treatment of athletes and active individuals suffering from musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. Neely emphasizes a non-surgical approach to medicine and is committed to staying educated on the newest medical techniques and advanced technologies. This allows him to deliver the most state-of-the-art and effective treatments available, with the ultimate goal of successfully returning patients to their active lives.
Dr. Neely is skilled at treating athletes of all levels and abilities who are engaged in a wide variety of sports. Dr. Neely is a trusted provider for athletes from the New York Yankees, New York Giants, New York Mets, New England Patriots, New Jersey Nets, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Bobcats, Memphis Grizzles and NBA officials.
Those who do not consider themselves athletes, however, should not be dissuaded from seeking his expertise. Dr. Neely’s proficiency in physiatry nyc, sports medicine nyc and treating athletes is transferable to any individual who is interested in remaining active at any level. He understands that not everyone wants to run a marathon, but he operates under the belief that everyone wants to, and deserves to, live a full life that is free of pain. That’s why he carefully evaluates each patient’s condition, as well as their goals, and prescribes customized treatment plans that effectively meet each individual’s unique needs.
An appointment with Dr. Neely is not like the typical, quick “inand out” visit that many patients may be used to. He takes the time to figure out what the real cause of a patient’s pain is. Dr. Neely is an expert at assessing all types of injuries and pain sources and spends time listening closely to each patient, providing a thorough assessment, and if necessary referring patients for additional testing, in order to get to the bottom of what is causing pain. Dr. Neely’s patients are often relieved that he so accurately diagnoses the source of their pain so they can begin on the road to recovery, especially since many have previously been unsuccessful in obtaining a proper diagnosis and effective treatment to get them back to the level of activity they desire.
Dr. Neely received his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a Specialty Internal Medicine Track Internship at South Pointe Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also served as Chief Resident during his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MetroHealth Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. His intensive study of Physical Medicine included specific training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital for Rehabilitation, and the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Medical Center. Prior to establishing NY SportsMed, Dr. Neely worked with New York City’s most reputable orthopedic surgeons at Seaport Orthopedic Associates. Before moving to New York, he was Director of the Transitional Care Unit at a well-known hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Driven by his overall dedication to medicine, as well as his distinctive commitment to treating the unique needs of athletes, Dr. Neely continually attends educational seminars which exceed the minimum requirements for maintaining his license. This ensures his patients the most current level of care available.
Dr. Neely is a board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR), a Board Certified Sports Medicine Doctor and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR). He is also an Associate Member of the American Osteopathic Association.
