Claude-HillelClaude Hillel believes in the importance of focusing on the unique needs of every individual and adapting treatment to a patient’s specific lifestyle, functional limitations and goals. As Senior Physical Therapist at New York Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, Claude specializes in treating pathologies of the spine (cervical to lumbar), as well as prevention of their contribution to a variety of other dysfunctions of the extremities.

Claude has advanced skills in manual therapy, including the Mulligan concept, Maitland assessment approach, McConnell patellofemoral techniques, and MacKenzie method, as well as other manual treatment techniques. Claude’s treatment philosophy encompasses an openness to assess different physical therapy philosophies and treatments in order to determine the best approach for each specific situation, and therefore he stays current on the latest advances in physical therapy through education.

Claude received a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from McGill University and later returned to McGill to receive his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. He has also completed numerous continuing education courses, supporting his belief that staying current through education is the hallmark of successful physical therapy. Claude has taken classes on manual therapy, mobilization, biomechanics, spinal evaluation and manipulation, and numerous courses involving treatment of the spine and extremities.

Claude loves to stay active and is an avid volleyball player and kite boarder.  His love of sport allows him to understand the importance to his patients of being able to get back to doing the activities that they love. High on his list of priorities is a willingness to help others, and Claude was instrumental in providing physical therapy assistance to Haitians with orthopedic injuries following the devastating earthquake in Haiti in early 2010. He also speaks French and Portuguese.
