Dr. Suzanne Gutiérrez Teissonniere is a board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR), a Board Certified Sports Medicine Doctor and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR). She is also trained in interventional spine procedures and electrodiagnostic testing. Her emphasis is a non-surgical approach to the management of musculoskeletal injuries, including those to the spine.
Dr. Gutiérrez received her college degree in Biopsychology and Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University in Medford, MA. She then received her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) School of Medicine. Dr. Gutiérrez completed Internal Medicine Internship at the Puerto Rico Medical Center (UPR) and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at New York University, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, where she also served as Chief Resident.
She also had the unique opportunity to be a visiting resident physician in the Rehabilitation Institute of Lucy Montoro and the ‘Hospital das Clínicas’ of the University of Sao Paulo. Following residency, Dr. Gutiérrez completed a Fellowship in Spine and Sports Medicine at Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr. Gutiérrez is a member of several professional associations, including American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her publications include two chapters for sports medicine related books. Dr. Gutiérrez is a firm believer that maintaining an active lifestyle is beneficial for the overall well being of her patients. She enjoys to exercise, dance/choreograph and travel. In addition, she recently completed the New York City half marathon.
